This year, an innovative component of what we will do in Iraq will be a Catalog Show with catalogues from international companies being available to buyers throughout Iraq. Firms with little or no previous exposure in Iraq will have a low-cost, low-risk opportunity to gauge and build interest in products and we are interested in having a lot of participation—particularly from American companies.
Leanne Case of Upper Quartile said “We plan to collect company profiles and brochures and package them for review. The Ministry of Oil, the state owned oil companies as well as private sector firms will attend the show. We have asked members of the ACCE to coordinate the packaging of their materials and send them to one of our American Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRTs) colleagues. They will assist by coordinating a display at several Provincial venues. It will be great exposure and promises to get the ball rolling for those intrigued by direct investment in Iraq”
Significant growth in the Iraqi Oil sector is currently under way – with new international contracts in place output may, over time, approach 12 million barrels per day. This is up from the current two plus million barrels per day. Explosive growth in the Iraqi oil and gas marketplace is set to occur!
Underpinning these ambitious growth plans is an oil Infrastructure system that is in a perilous state having seenlimited investment over the last 30 years. The previous regime’s systematic dismantling of the private sector leaves Iraq with no prospect of quickly increasing capacity. The current state owned infrastructure and the services sectors specifically are unable to respond to existing demand.
Adrian Green of Upper Quartile said that “We will also run two trade missions to Iraq – the first in May focused on Oil and Gas Service companies and the second, in June, on infrastructure. We have found that carefully targeted Trade Missions give companies a cost-effective, secure method of visiting high potential market leaders. Our initial trade mission in October 2009 led to significant success with five signed contracts from among the twelve participants”
