Refinery Workers Demonstrate in Basra

Basra, 19 March 2010 (Aswat Al Iraq )

Hundreds of oil workers employed at the South Refineries Company demonstrated on Thursday in Basra demanding to dissolve the firm’s board of directors and to release their share of revenues.

“All the refineries’ units were stopped for three hours on Thursday when around 700 of the firm’s staff demonstrated,” a source from the refineries’ workers union told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said that a delegation from the Basra Provincial Council visited the company and promised the demonstrators that their demands will be raised to the federal government in Baghdad.
