According to a report from Reuters, international oil executives will gather in Baghdad on Saturday to discuss contracts for four new oil refineries.
“There are many international companies that expressed their interest to participate and to reach an agreement with the Oil Ministry,” said Oil Ministry spokesman, Assim Jihad.
Iraq’s eight oil refineries have a capacity of 659,000 bpd, and the new refineries will more than double this:
- Nassiriya, southern Iraq, 300,000 bpd;
- Kirkuk, in the north, 150,000 bpd;
- Maysan, in the south, 150,000 bpd;
- Karbala, close to Baghdad, 140,000 bpd.
As we’ve already reported, Foster Wheeler was awarded a feasibility study and engineering design contract for the Nassiriya refinery.
