| AHmed drives Ryan to the front door of the Baghdad Hotel. | ||
| AHmed: Haatha finduq Baghdad. Itfathal, ustaath. | أحمد: هذا فِندُق بَغداد . إتفَضَل أُستاذ . | This is the Baghdad Hotel. Please, sir.

| Ryan: Ashkurak. Shgad il ujrah? Aani nsayt inta shgilitlii.
|
راين: أشکُرَك . شگد الأُجره ؟ آني نسیت إنتَ شگلِتلي . | I thank you. How much is the fare? I forget what you told me. |
| AHmed: Alfehn dinaar.
|
أحمد: الفین دینار .
| Two thousand dinars. |
| Ryan: E, aani at-thekkar, laakin ariid adfa’lak tlath talaaf dinaar mithil ma ridit bil awwal. |
راين: اي . آني أتذَکَر لکِن أرید أدفَعلَك تلَث تالاف دینار مِثِل ما رِدِت بِل الأوَّل .
| Yes, I remember, but I want to pay you the three thousand dinars you wanted at first.

| AHmed: Mu lazzim, ustaath. |
أحمد: مو لازم ، أُستاذ .
| That is not necessary, sir.

| Ryan: La, inta sa’aditni hwaaya, b nuqTat il taftiish w inta jibitni lihnaa b-aman. | راين: لا ، إنتَ ساعَدِتني هوایه ، بنُقطَة التَفتیش وإنتَ جبِتني لِهنا بآمان .
| No, you helped me a lot, at the checkpoint and you brought me here safely. |
| AHmed: Shukran, ustaath. |
أحمد: شُكر ًا ، أُستاذ .
| Thank you, sir. |
| Ryan: La shukur ‘ala wajib. | راين: لا شُکُر ، علی واجِب .
| Thanks are not necessary. |
| AHmed: Aani raaH ashtaqlak. Safra sa’iida. Diir baalak. Allah ykhaliik. | أحمد: آني راح أشتاقلَك . سَفره سَعیده . دیر بالَك . الله یخَلیك .
| I will miss you. Happy travels. Be careful. May God protect you. |
| Ryan: Shukran. Allah wiyaak. | راين: شُکر ًا ، الله ویاك .
| Thank you. May God be with you. |
| Ryan gets out of the taxi and a bellman approaches.

| Bellman: Aani bil khidma, ustaath. | بیلمان: آني بالخدمه ، أُستاذ .
| At your service, sir. |
| Ryan: Shukran. Rajaa’ann ukhuth jinuT-ti lid daakhil. | راين: شُکر ًا ، رَجاءً أُخُذ جِنُطتي للداخِل .
| Thank you. Please take my bag inside. |
| Ryan walks inside and goes to the front desk.

| Zahra (front desk clerk): Shlohn agdar asaa’dak, ustaath? | زهره: (الاستقبال): شلون أگدَر أساعدَك ، أُستاذ ؟
| How can I help you, sir? |
| Ryan: Aani ‘indi Hajiz lil yoom. Aani ismi Ryan. W, inti shlohnich? | راين:آني عِندي حَجِز للیوم. آني إسمي راين. وإنتي شلونچ ؟ | I have a reservation for today. My name is Ryan. And, how are you? |
| Zahra: Al Hamdulillah. Shukran. Hajzak l nafar lo nafarehn ? | زهره: الحَمدُ لله ، شُکراً . حَجزَك لِنَفَر لو نَفَرین ؟ | Praise be to God. Thank you. Your reservation is for one or two people? |
| Ryan: Nafar waHid, min fathlich. | راين: نَفَر واحِد ، مِن فَضلِچ
| One person, please. |
| Zahra: Shgad raaH tubqa wiyanna? | زهره: شگد راح تُبقی ویانه ؟
| How long will you stay with us? |
| Ryan: Aani ma adrii. Isbuu’ aw isbuu’ehn. ‘Ala kull Hal, mu akthar min tlath asaabii’ w mu aqal min isbuu’. | راين: آني ما أدري إسبوع او إسبوعین. علی کُل حال ، مو أکثَر مِن تلَث أسابیع و مو أقَل مِن إسبوع .
| I don’t know. One or two weeks. Anyway, not more than three weeks and not less than one week. |
| Zahra: Kullish zehn, Sayyid Ryan. Haak miftaaHak. Raqam il ghurfa sitt miyya w thmanya w arba’iin. Ahlan wa sahlan. | زهره: کُلِّش زین، سَیِّد راين. هاك مِفتاحَك.رَقَم الغُرفة ست مِیَّه و ثمانیَّه و أربَعین.أهلاً و سَهلاً .
| Very good, Mr. Ryan. Here is your key. Your room number is 648. Welcome. |
| Ryan: Tigdariin tguulilii hessa is saa’a baysh? | راين: تِگِدرین تگوليلي هِسَّه السَّاعة بيش ؟
| Can you tell me what time it is now? |
| Zahra: Tab’an, ustaath. Hessa is saa’a arba’a w rubu’, ba’ad ith thuhur. | زهره: طبعاً ، أُستاذ ، هِسَّه السَّاعة أربَعه ورُبُع ، بَعَد الظُهُر .
| Of course, sir. Now it is 4:15 in the afternoon. |
| Ryan: Shwakit maT’amkum maftuuH lil ‘asha? | راين: شوَکِت مَطعَمکُم مَفتوح للعَشه ؟
| When is your restaurant open for dinner? |
| Zahra: Min is saa’a khamsa w nuS ila l dda’ash bil lehl, inshaa’allah. Laakin ra-jaa-an la tidkhul il maT’am ba’ad l idda’ash illa ‘ashir diqaayik. | زهره: من السَّاعة خَمسه و نُص الی الدَعَش بِاللیل إنشاءالله . لکِن رَجاءً لا تِدخُل المَطعَم بَعَد الدَعَش إلّا عَشِر دَقايِق .
| From 5:30 until 11:00 in the evening, God willing. But, please don’t enter the restaurant after 10:50. |
