العامِل: أُستاذ وين أحُط الجَنطه؟ | Sir, where may I put the bag? |
| Ryan: Rajaa’ann HuTha ‘all sirir. |
راين: رجاءً حُطها عالسِرير. | Please put it on the bed. |
| Bellman: Ustaath, inta tiHtaaj ba’ad fed shi? |
العامِل: أُستاذ، إنتَ تِحتاج بَعَد فَد شي؟
| Sir, do you need anything else? |
| Ryan: La. Shokran li musaa’adtak. | راين: لا. شُكراً لِمُساعَدتَك.
| No. Thank you for your help. |
| Bellman: ‘Afwan, ustaath. Iqaama sa’iida. | العامِل: عَفواً، أُستاذ. إقامَه سَعيده.
| You’re welcome, sir. Have a good stay. |
| The bellman leaves and Ryan telephones a friend. | ||

| Good. My son and my daughter are in school. You remember Amiina, my wife? She is happy and busy at home. |
| Ryan: Tab’an aani at thakkarha. Shgad ‘umur ibnak w bintak hessa? | راين: طَبعاً، آني أتذَكَرها. شگد عُمُر إبنَك و بِنتَك هِسّه؟
| Of course I remember her. How old are your son and daughter now? |
| Nouri: Huwwa than’ash w hiyya ‘umurha tis’a. Humma ba’adhum yit thekkaruuk. | نوري: هُوَّ ثنَعَش و هِيَّ عُمُرها تِسعه. هُمَّه بَعَدهُم يِتذَكَروك.

| Excellent. They live in California, near my brother and sister. |
| Nouri: Zehn. Akhuk thabiT bil jaysh, mu balla? | نوري: زين. أخوك ضابِط بالجَيش، مو بَالله؟
| Good. Your brother is an officer in the army, isn’t he? |
| Ryan: Huwwa chaan bil jaysh w chaan yiskun b wilayet Texas, laakin hessa huwwa yishtughul b sharika b San Francisco. Ukhti Talibet jammi’a. | راين: هوَّ چان بِالجَيش و چان يِسكُن بوِلاية تكساس لكِن هِسه هوَّ يِشتُغُل بشَرِكَة بسان فرانسيسكو. أُختي طالِبة جامِعه.
| He was in the army and was living in Texas, but now he is working for a company in San Francisco. My sister is a university student. |
| Nouri: Rajaa’an balligh ahlak salami w taHiyyati. | نوري: رجاءً بَلِّغ أهلَك سَلامي وتَحِياتي.

| Ryan: Akiid, aani raaH aguulhum. Shukran, Sadiqi. W salaam l-ahlak. Aani naazil b finduq Baghdad. Inta w Madam Amiina ma’zumin ‘al‘asha hallela. | راين: أكيد، آني راح أگولهُم. شُكراً صَديقي وسَلام الى أهلَك. آني نازِل بِفِندِق بَغداد. إنتَ و مَدام أمينه مَعزومين عَالعَشه هالليله.
| Sure, I will tell them. Thank you, my friend. And peace to your family. I am staying at the Baghdad Hotel. Are you and Madam Amiina free for dinner tonight? |
| Nouri: Bi kull suruur. Tab‘an. Shokran ‘ala dda’wa. Saa’a beesh? | نوري: بِكُل سُرور. طَبعاً. شُكراً على الدَعوه. ساعَة بَيش؟
| With pleasure. Of course. Thank you for the invitation. What time? |
| Ryan: Mumkin saa‘a sab‘a? Aku khosh maT‘am ‘abr ish-shaari’ muqaabil il finduq. Aani raaH akuun kullish farHaan altiqi wiyya thnehnatkum wniHchi ‘aan kull shi. | راين: مُمكِن ساعَه سَبعه؟ أكو خوش مَطعَم عَبر الشارِع مُقابِل الفِندُق. آني راح أكون كُلِّش فَرحان ألتِقي وِيه ثنيناتكُم و نِحچي عن كُل شي.
