The deputy head of the Kurdistan Importers and Exporters Union said the union signed a protocol with the Ukraine Business Council during a visit to the Ukrainian capital Kiev (pictured).
The protocol was signed at the conclusion of a wide-ranging commercial conference held by the Ukraine Business Council. Sixteen members travelled from Kurdistan.
The terms in the agreement call the signatories to encourage the companies from Ukraine to engage in investment in Kurdistan.
“We seek to reduce our import volume and hope to be able to export our own products,” Kurdish official, Ata Mohammad, told AKnews on Thursday.
While the Region is reinforcing its image as a safe zone and a booming economy in the war-ravaged Iraq, more and more investors are attracted to Kurdistan, which also serves as a gateway for trading with the rest of the country.
