Iraq Buys 120,000 tons Rice and Grain

Iraq has bought 120,000 tonnes of rice from abroad, Muthanna Jabbar, director general of Iraq’s grains trading board, told Reuters on Sunday.

He said Iraq bought 90,000 tonnes from the United States, and the remaining 30,000 tonnes from Argentina and Uruguay.

Iraq, one of the world’s biggest importers of rice and wheat, issued a tender on 28th Dec to buy 30,000 tonnes of rice, a figure usually signifying a required minimum.

Most of Iraq’s grain purchases are to supply a public food rationing programme.
