Turkish Airlines Opens New Iraqi Routes

A member of Najaf provincial council announced on Friday that Turkish Airlines will run four flights a week between Istanbul and Najaf airport, increasing to seven flight s a week from next month when services to five other Iraqi airports will begin.

Abdul Hussein Abtan told AKnews that the civil aviation authorities in Iraq and Turkey have given Turkish Airlines the go ahead for 36 flights a week between Istanbul and six Iraqi airports.

The flights will connect Istanbul to Baghdad, Erbil, Sulaimaniyah, Basra, Mosul and Najaf airports, he said.

Flights between many of these airports and Istanbul already exist but it is hoped that increasing competition between the operating airlines will bring down the cost of traveling to Iraq’s neighboring countries.
