Rail Company Accuses Govt Officials of Corruption

The Iraqi Railway Company accused government officials on Sunday of attempting to open up the transport system to private companies for personal gain through the suspension of the national transport law that was passed by the Ba’ath regime.

Spokesperson for the company, Jawad al-Kharsani, told AKnews that the law meant that government ministries were required to use the nationally owned transport facilities, whether by sea, air or train. But that is now not the case as ministers attempt to make money by providing services themselves, he claimed.

“Some government officials blocked the work of this law in order to operate their own transport companies and get material benefit from the transport of government goods from ports to the provinces.”
