The planning commission of the provincial council of Baghdad announced the construction of an industrial city of approximately 2,000 donums (500 hectares) in the Nahrawan area, south of the Iraqi capital.
According to AKnews, the project will be built by the Iraqi company Majd al-Ard, and will cost around $250 million USD (293.3 billion IQD). It is scheduled to be finished within one year.
“The industrial city will meet modern international standards and it will also be environmentally friendly to restore the beauty of our capital Baghdad,” said Committee Chairman Mohammed al-Rabaie.
Economists say that the industrial production in Iraq has dropped by 66% after 2003, with approximately 13,000 workers being laid off.
