Agriculture Ministry offers 5.7% of Iraq to Private Investors

Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture has completed a plan to make 10 million donums of agricultural land, equal to approximately 25,000 square kilometers, available for private investment.

According to the report from AKnews, the land will be available in all Iraqi provinces, and represents about 5.7 percent of Iraq’s total area.

“The ministry is following high-level agricultural plans to develop the agricultural situation of Iraq and reach self-sufficiency of agricultural crops through the activation of agricultural loans and the development of agricultural investment projects,” Sabah Darei, general director of the General Authority for regulating agricultural investments, said.

The Iraqi agriculture industry is suffering because of a two-year drought and farmers who are unable to compete with cheap imported products and therefore reluctant to farm.
