Modern Iraq Company for Trading Agencies (MICTA), the authorised distributor for Cummins Power Generation in Iraq, has provided a prime power solution to a cement factory in Samawa, midway between the capital Baghdad and Basra in the south. Al-Douh Cement Factory (pictured) needed 15 MW of self-generation capacity for its 5,000 m2 site.
MICTA supplied 16 Cummins Power Generation open generator sets, configured to work automatically and in parallel. All of the generator sets were specified as C1400 D5 units except for three, which were of the C1100 D5 type.
The engine models were KTA50-G3 and QST30-G4. MICTA was responsible for the project, including the provision of switchgear and advising on generator set room design. Low-noise operation and air quality were particular requirements.
The contract was awarded by Iraq’s Ministry of Industry, a Cummins Power Generation and MICTA customer since 2008. The Ministry now has three Cummins Power Generation installations, and Cummins products were the preferred choice for the Samawa cement factory thanks to a number of factors including proven reliability.
