Syrian Foreign Minister Visits Baghdad

Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Hoshyar Zebari received on May 26, 2013, at Baghdad International Airport Mr. Walid al-Muallem, Foreign Minister of Syria.

The Syrian delegation met Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and discussed relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, and ways of developing them, in addition to the latest developments in Syria and the international efforts to find a political solution for the Syrian crisis.

Mr. Zebari exchanged views and discussed importance of a positive and constructive cooperation by the Syrian government with the Geneva 2 Conference to be held next month to find a peaceful solution for the Syrian crisis.

For his part, the Syrian Minister declared that the Syrian government decided to participate in the forthcoming Geneva International Conference next June. He expressed the Syrian people’s solidarity with the Iraqi people in confronting terrorism, and the Syrian government’s decision to exempt religious tourist groups from visas to the Syrian territory.

The two sides held a press conference in which they briefed results of their talks.
