Iraq Participates in International Nuclear Conference

Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, headed Iraq’s delegation to the international conference on nuclear security (strengthening international efforts) currently being held in Vienna.

The Minister gave Iraq’s speech at the conference, highlighting Iraq’s international obligations, laws and legislation issued on disarmament and non-proliferation, stressing the importance of strengthening the joint international cooperation frameworks to face up to nuclear risks.

Minister Zebari reviewed the most important achievements and steps taken by the Iraqi government to face up to the dangers of nuclear weapons dangers and weapons of mass destruction, calling on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to support Iraq in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Iraq’s participation in international conferences, chairing the Conference on Disarmament, and exiting the provisions of Chapter VII enhanced Iraq’s position in the international community.

The delegation included the Iraqi Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Policy Planning, Hala Shaker, Head of the Organizations and International Cooperation Department, Ahmed Bamarni, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Suroud Najib, Head of the National Monitoring Commission, Jawad Al Sharaa, Head of the Iraqi Commission for Control on Radioactive Resources, Hussein Abbas.
