The Head of the Swedish Embassy’s Section Office in Erbil, Jessica Svärdström, who is also the Deputy Head of Mission at the Swedish Embassy in Baghdad, met with the Head of the KRG Department of Foreign (DFR), Minister Falah Mustafa and the Assistant Head of the DFR, Siham Jabali, to discuss relations and matters of mutual concern.
Minister Mustafa welcomed Ms Svärdström to the DFR and briefed her on a number of political and security developments both in Kurdistan as well as Iraq as a whole.
These included the government formation process in Kurdistan, Iraq’s upcoming parliamentary elections as well as the latest security situation in Anbar province, and the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in Syria.
Minister Mustafa briefed her on Prime Minister Barzani’s recent visit to Baghdad where the budget as well as oil and gas issues were discussed. He said, ‘the KRG delegation is back and we look forward to a solution. The KRG is committed to dialogue on the basis of the Iraqi constitution.’
Both sides went on to discuss areas of mutual interest with Minister Mustafa highlighting the recent appointment of new KRG Representative to Sweden, saying he hoped this would help further strengthen relations. Minister Mustafa added that, ‘Sweden has a large Kurdish community therefore it is important for us to continue improving our relations.’
