The Head of the Embassy Office of the Czech Republic, Dr. Jaroslav Reif visited the KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations on Monday to meet with the Head of the Department, Minister Falah Mustafa and the Assistant Head, Siham Jabali to discuss his new role and ways to strengthen mutual relations.
Dr. Reif is the first Czech diplomat to be stationed in Kurdistan following the upgrade of their representation office and there are further plans in place to upgrade to a fully fledged Consulate in the next few months. Dr. Reif was previously the Head of the Commercial Office in the Czech Embassy in Baghdad from 2007 – 2009.
Minister Mustafa welcomed Dr. Reif to Kurdistan and wished him success for the duration of his tenure here, assuring him of the DFR’s full support for the Czech Republic mission in Erbil.
He said, ‘We remember that the Czech Republic was the first western country to open a trade liaison office in Kurdistan many years ago and I am happy that you are here as the presence of a diplomat will give this relationship further impetus.’
Both sides discussed a number of areas of potential cooperation with Minister Mustafa highlighting the different sectors that the Czech Republic has been active in here such as archaeology, tourism and industry in all its forms.
In addition they discussed other ways of strengthening these relations such as exchanges of visits, business to business relations and organizing economic forums which can all pave the way for stronger cooperation.
