Calling all Election Pundits

With Iraq’s parliamentary elections scheduled for Wednesday 30th April, this week’s newsletter has a special section dedicated to the election and related news. In all, 9,045 candidates will compete to fill 328 seats, and much depends on the outcome.

As a cross-section of Iraq’s best-informed people, what do you, our readers, forecast as the outcome of the election? Will Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki’s State of Law Coalition receive the most votes, as many expect? How soon will the parties be able to negotiate and finalise the formation of a new cabinet? And crucially, who will be the next Prime Minister?

Please let us know your predictions in the Comments section below.

My prediction is that Nuri Maliki will win the seat of Prime Minister for a third term. They have no other good choices to choose from.

Surely Mr.Nuri Al-Maliki will not win a third term due he has turned all his political partners to enemies. I expect almost equal seats for Al-Ahrar(Al-Sadr) and Al-Muatin (Al-Hakeem) who will form a coalition with the Kurds, independents, and Allawi , leaving Al-Maliki (even if he gets higher seats as a political bloc) alone in the opposition. This time Iranian pressure will be resisted.

Ahmed Al-Chalabi from Al-Muatin , or son of the late Al-Sadr are probable PM of Iraq.
