Japan Implements Water, Sewerage Projects

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister, Nechirvan Barzani, has received Mr. Akihiko Tanaka, head of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan’s Ambassador to Iraq.

Mr. Tanaka expressed his appreciation for the assistance that Kurdistan Regional Government, KRG, provides to the agency during the implementation of their projects in the Region.

He briefed the Prime Minister about the implementation of water and sewage treatment projects in the cities of Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok and Halabja, which are funded by JICA. Some of these projects have started to be implemented.

He reiterated that JICA will continue the implementation of its projects in Iraq in general, and Kurdistan Region in particular.

Prime Minister Barzani expressed his gratitude to JICA, the people and government of Japan for their assistance to the Kurdistan Region in the past and for the projects that are currently under implementation.

He pointed out that Kurdistan Region needs to further develop its infrastructure and that it can benefit from Japan’s experience and funding policy, for the implementation of needed projects in the Kurdistan Region, particularly the water and sewage projects which are planned to be implemented in the city of Erbil in future.

Prime Minister Barzani also expressed his appreciation for the training courses that JICA has opened for a number of Kurdistan Regional Government’s employees.
