DC Run Raises $33k for Iraqi Children

With more than 300 participants, the recent “IN THEIR SHOES 5K” nearly bested the previous 2 annual 5Ks combined.

The largest team to register was EPIC, with USIP right behind, both with more than 20. Other teams included Cobec, Michael Baker International, Road Runners, the Tortoise and Hare, and the Flying Tigris.

And when the last donation arrived, days after the race from someone who couldn’t attend, fundraising reached a record $33,000 from 5K sponsorships and individual donations.

All funds go directly to benefit Iraq’s most vulnerable children to provide food, tutoring, play, emotional care, and more for desperately poor orphans, street children, and kids who’ve fled with their families from ISIS.

A very special thanks to Amb. and Mrs. Lukman Faily, Amb. and Mrs. James Jeffrey, Amb. Samir and Mrs. May Sumaida’ie, Maj. General Jeffrey Buchanan, Gold Star Mothers Kelly Swanson and Michelle Murphy (and family), many veterans, and distinguished members of the local Iraqi-American community for being great sports and joining in the cause.

And to our generous sponsors – BH Defense, Khudairi Group, Boeing, Frankel PLLC, The Children’s Village, Blue Bay International, and Magnolias on King – thank you for mobilizing life-changing support for Iraqi kids!  Your financial support is translated into nutritious food, staff to teach, comfort and care for kids, learning materials, and a safe place where they can belong and be a child as each was meant to be.

The Iraqi Children Foundation (ICF) is a US-based nonsectarian tax-exempt 501(c)(3) charity, based in Falls Church, VA, whose mission is to mobilize a life-changing surge of love for Iraqi orphans and vulnerable children suffering from years of war and violence.
