The highest judicial authority in Iraqi Kurdistan has reportedly extended the term of KRG President Massoud Barzani (pictured) for two more years.
The Judicial Council of the Kurdistan Region said that Barzani will remain in his post until the 2017 KRG general election.
According to the report from BasNews, Kurdish political parties have been at loggerheads over the future of the position, as Barzani’s term was due to finish on 20th August.
Barzani was initially elected president by the Kurdish parliament in 2005; he was reelected in 2009 by popular vote, and when his second term expired in 2013, parliament extended his mandate until 20th August 2015.
