The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad has announced that the application period for the 2016 Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) Student Leaders Program is open.
Applications will be accepted until the deadline of December 21, 2015. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the MEPI Student Leaders Program supports the goals of the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement by providing opportunities to Iraqi undergraduate students to spend six weeks in the United States to develop leadership skills and become more familiar with democratic principles.
The program will take place in the United States from June 26 to August 5, 2016. Students will be placed in one of six U.S. colleges or universities where they will participate in a five-week academic residency and a one-week educational study tour.
The program will address themes such comparative analysis of leadership styles, conflict resolution and group dynamics, the role of civil society, and public policy management.
Applicants must be 20-24 years old, citizens and residents of Iraq, have good command of the English language, and have a sustained high level of academic achievement.
Applicants must also be able to participate fully in intensive academic activities, have a serious interest in pursuing leadership opportunities and civic engagement in Iraq, and be eager to engage with their American counterparts about Iraqi society and culture.
Detailed information about the program, including how to apply, can be found at the website: http://iraq.usembassy.gov/student-leaders-program2.html. The deadline for applications is midnight on Monday, December 21, 2015.
