President Masoud Barzani received a military and diplomatic delegation from the United States. The delegation was headed by Tony Blinken, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State. The delegation also included Brett McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant.
The meeting was initiated by Deputy Secretary Blinken stating that the United States support for the Kurdistan Region will continue and that the ongoing war against the terrorists of the Islamic State has only brought the Kurdistan Region and the United States closer to one another.
The two sides spoke of the Mosul operation and its importance to drastically weaken the terrorists of the Islamic State. President Barzani added that the post-liberation management of Mosul is also of immense importance, reiterating his stance of meticulously planning for Mosul after the liberation from the cruelty of the terrorists.
President Barzani expressed, on behalf of the people of the Kurdistan Region, his gratitude to the people and government of the United States for their support to the Kurdistan Region as it continues to be engaged in this existential battle against the terrorists of the Islamic State.
