Iraq to join UN Human Rights Council

Iraq has been elected to serve on the Human Rights Council, the United Nations body responsible for the promotion and protection of all human rights around the globe.

Also among the 14 states elected by secret ballot on Friday were Brazil, China, Croatia, Cuba, Egypt, Hungary, Japan, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, United Kingdom and the United States.

All will serve three-year terms beginning on 1st January 2017.
