Basra, 31 May 2010 - Aswat Al Iraq
A plan is underway to build nine new quays in Basra’s Umm Qasr port in light of a surge in the number of ships arriving at Iraqi ports, the Iraq Ports Company director revealed on Sunday.
“A project was put up to build four quays while a company offered to set up new quays more in Umm Qasr,” Salah Abboud said in a press conference in Basra.
“Works are going on to refurbish Umm Qasr and improve its navigational depths to received different cargo ships,” he added.
Umm Qasr’s current number of quays is 21.
