Tunisia to Open Office in Kurdistan

The Head of the KRG Department of Foreign Relations, Minister Falah Mustafa has received the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr. Samir Jamae Abdullah. The meeting revolved around ways of strengthening bilateral ties particularly in the areas of trade and economy.

On his first visit to Kurdistan, Ambassador Abdullah praised the region’s economic development and stability and expressed the willingness of the Republic of Tunisia to establish stronger relations with KRG.

He stated, “as a first step, we are planning to open our Embassy Office in the Kurdistan Region, and we have already discussed that with Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

Minister Mustafa welcomed the Ambassador and congratulated him on his appointment as Tunisia’s Ambassador to Iraq. He assured him of the DFR’s support and assistance in establishing the Tunisian mission in Kurdistan.

Furthermore, the Head of DFR shed light on the KRG’s open door policy towards Arab states and the wider international community.

Ambassador Abdullah also informed Minister Mustafa that starting on the 1st of June, Tunisia will begin its first direct flight between Tunisia and Kurdistan through Erbil International Airport.

Minister Mustafa expressed his confidence that the the steps being taken by the Tunisian government in opening a representation office here as well as the start of direct flights between Tunisia and Kurdistan, would both lead to a closer relationship beneficial to both sides.

Both sides also agreed to the importance of the continuation of high level government visits between both sides in order to ensure the development of these relations.
