The Kurdistan Region's police chief said his office has proposed to recruit an additional 3,000 new policemen.
Abdullah Khaylani told AKnews that the Kurdistan Interior Ministry agreed to the proposal, and it is currently being discussed in the regional Council of Ministers.
The Council will respond to the demand after the ratification of the Kurdistan general budget.
The Kurdistan Region's premier, Barham Salih, said last month that 25,000 people will be employed throughout 2011. Kurdistan budget stands at 13.940 trillion Iraqi Dinars (IQD)- nearly 11.863 million U.S. Dollars.
The Kurdish region is entitled to 17% of the Iraqi total budget. Since the 2011 Iraq budget was delayed, Kurdistan could not ratify its budget earlier.
