The economic commission of the Iraqi parliament has proposed merging the Ministries of Trade and Industry to support the Iraqi economy through improving the local production and enhancing Iraq’s abilities.
Ahmed al-Alwani, Chairman of the Committee told AKnews that the integration of these ministries is done in all international economically and commercially developed countries.
In a statement issued at the end of March, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki didn’t rule out merging some ministries if that was necessary.
“The Economic Commission also proposes the formation of a ministry concerned in the distribution of [ration] card items.”
The parliamentary Economic Committee received 16 economic laws from the former Economic Commission.
Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki confirmed that old problems and laws hinder the improvement of the country’s economy.
Although it has held more than 50 session so far, the parliament has not passed legislation apart from two laws — the law of the Vice-President of the Republic and the general budget of the state.
