Ms. Suzan Aref, Director of the Women’s Empowerment Organization (WEO) in Erbil, recently gave a lesson in leadership to 45 students at the Mar Qaradakh School in Erbil. This school, which offers English language and computer training courses, is sponsored by the Start Social Development Organization in collaboration with the United States Consulate in Erbil.
Ms. Aref provided a brief explanation about the WEO and its focus on education, leadership and legal support for women. She discussed some of the important requirements for leadership development, including getting a good education and keeping up with advances in new technologies. These requirements apply not only to students, but also to mothers.
At the end of her presentation, Ms. Aref engaged in an open discussion with the students, answering all of their questions and inviting them to visit the Women Empowerment Organization to view their youth training services and take advantage of the legal assistance offered by WEO.
At the end of the meeting, Ms. Aref thanked the students and expressed her happiness with the commitments they are making to complete their English and computer training courses and preparing for the future.
She advised the women to start planning and working hard to prove their goals depending upon themselves which will reflect a trust and more respect from their community and a good impact for their family.
