The Australian-based company Oil Search Limited has reportedly suspended its activities in Iraqi Kurdistan due to an armed attack on the company’s work base in the Nawjul District in Kfri.
According to the report from AKnews, the Director of the district, Wahab Ahmed, confirmed the incident and denied that it was linked with the political problems between Erbil and Baghdad.
He said that unidentified armed men opened fire on Oil Search on Monday night, causing the company to suspend its work temporarily and leave its base camp. A worker was wounded a week ago in a separate attack.
Staff have now gathered at their main office in Sulaymaniya and are meeting to decide whether to stay or leave.
