Rompetrol Considers Iraqi Expansion

The Managing Director of Romania's Rompetrol has said that the company is interested in exploring in Iraq.

Gavit Kurkimov (pictured) said:

"We have just visited Iraq. The main purpose of our visit was to gather information on the possibilities of drilling there ... we do not carry out any activities in Iraq, but have opened an office in Baghdad."

He added that the company is considering to drilling in the west of Iraq:

"We have not decided if we are going to work in the west or the north of Iraq. We need to analyze the information collected during the trip, and then develop a business project."

Rompetrol Group is owned by the Kazakh state oil company KazMunaiGas.
