Building the Educational Pipeline in Kurdistan

Building hopes

In conjunction with the Barzani Foundation the KRG  is supporting a School building project at Domiz Camp for Syrian refugees.

It has been estimated that the school will need over fourteen classrooms for which a number of cabins will be required. The aim is to keep class sizes at a maximum of thirty students. The KRG Ministry of Education has confirmed that it will provide a curriculum and pay salaries and the Barzani Foundation intends to continue its support for the project.  However, significant donations of goods and indeed services are still required. The school is a symbol of hopes and dream for a community that needs to rebuild from scratch. The focus on  building a school in these circumstances is therefore to be lauded.

Building dreams

The KRG in conjunction with Get Energy and Whizz Education will be looking to explore new ways of driving investment in school children’s scientific literacy as part of a joined up ‘whole-life’ education process. Particular focus will be given to the strategic and financial role Oil and Gas companies can play in contributing to the Human Capacity Pipeline from school and even pre-school age, uniting this with strategic higher education focus, with educational technology as a link that promotes transparency and measurability. Discussions will be set within an overall holistic framework of education and training that supports oil and gas industry needs within a nation that has significant oil/gas resources.

Experts from a range of sectors will be contributing to the debate including Kurdish Universities, national and international oil/gas operators, educationalist, school specialists and government representatives from natural resources and education. It is hoped that the connections made and the ideas shared at this event will contribute directly to a ‘pipeline’ model of education within Kurdistan that can indeed then provide a template for similar development in other regions.
