The UK's Middle East Association (MEA), in partnership with UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), will be leading a trade delegation to Iraqi Kurdistan this September (22nd-27th) to coincide with the ninth Erbil International Trade Fair, Iraq’s largest general trade exhibition.
Mission participants will have the opportunity to exhibit at the Fair’s British Pavilion, and to meet government ministers, senior business leaders, and the local Chambers of Commerce. They can expect a warm welcome from the Kurds who regard us as special friends.
The Kurdistan Region has a fast growing economy built on progressive economic policies and increasing government transparency. Investment opportunities span every sector, including oil and gas, power, water and waste water management, agriculture and the service industries.
With large proven natural resources and a large work force, the Kurdistan Region is rapidly outstripping the rest of Iraq. The Kurdistan Regional Government has passed laws and regulations to encourage and facilitate foreign investment, offering incentives and legal guarantees. Turkey is the dominant trading partner.
In 2011, there were 850 exhibitors from 23 countries at the 7th International Erbil Trade Fair and more than 73,000 professional visitors , a record number. The UK presence, led by the MEA, comprised 89 delegates, including 20 exhibitors, the largest UK trade delegation to the region to date, and also the largest trade mission that year from the UK anywhere in the world. In the absence of any other safe venue in Iraq, attendance this year is likely to be as high as ever.
This mission will be the MEA’s fourteenth to the region since 2006. Kurdistan is one of the MEA’s major success stories. There are now 107 registered British companies there.
Exhibition space at the Erbil International Fair is finite, so we advise you to register early. Mission registration, as well as logistical queries, should be sent to our Mission Manager, Lyndsay Snowden ([email protected]).
For advice on the Iraqi Kurdistan market and its possibilities, please contact David Lloyd, Mission Leader ([email protected]), or Nawal Karim at the KRG’s UK Representation ([email protected]).
