FM Holds Talks with Algerian Counterpart

Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari talks last week with the Algerian Foreign Minister, Ramtane Lamamra.

During the talks, the two sides discussed bilateral relations, the establishment of the Joint Ministerial Committee and agreed to hold a preliminary meeting at the level of experts and technicians to set the foundations for cooperation in the fields of energy and trade.

They also talked about the possibility of opening a direct air route between Baghdad and Algiers, reviewing the file of the Algerian detainees in Iraq.

The two sides also reviewed the political developments in Iraq after the legislative elections and its results. The talks also dealt with the issue of the Syrian crisis.

Minister Zebari stressed the support for the Algerian efforts of the Libya neighboring countries mechanism with Libyan participation to help the Libyan people in light of the deteriorating security and political situation there.

The meeting was attended by Head of the Arab Department, Head of the Organizations Department, and the Iraqi Ambassador to Algeria.
