U.S. Embassy Praises Iraqi Government, World Food Program Food Assistance Distribution in Anbar
The U.S. Embassy praised the Government of Iraq and United Nations World Food Program (WFP), who yesterday donated and distributed more than 1000 metric tons of food to 70,000 people in the besieged cities of Haditha and Al Baghdadi in Anbar Province.
The United States Agency for International Development covered the costs for handling, transporting, and distributing the food.
“We commend the work of the Government of Iraq and the World Food Program in bringing this much-needed assistance to the people of Haditha and Al Baghdadi,” said Ambassador Stuart Jones (pictured), adding that he was extremely pleased that “the United States was able to play a role in this humanitarian operation.”
Since 2014, the U.S. has provided more than $603 million of humanitarian aid to Iraqis and remains committed to supporting humanitarian aid efforts to assist the Iraqi people.
