The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) reports a dramatic increase in the number of people arriving at displacement camps around Mosul. 9,018 people received relief packages from NRC during Friday alone.
With the assault launched by Iraqi forces to retake the city of Mosul, the NRC warns that the fate of some 1.2 million Iraqis is now in grave danger.
“Our staff are working round the clock to prepare for a mass exodus of families fleeing Mosul”, says NRC's Country Director in Iraq, Wolfgang Gressmann.
"We fear that the humanitarian consequences of this operation will be massive, and our staff have been working round the clock to prepare for a mass exodus of families expected to seek safety and our humanitarian assistance," says Gressmann.
