Japan give additional $16.7m to Stabilization in Iraq

UNDP Resident Representative for Iraq, Ms. Lise Grande, said:

“Helping to stabilize cities and districts is one of the most important things UNDP is doing in Iraq. Most of Mosul is already liberated, and the rest will be soon. We are moving very quickly to repair public infrastructure but there is a huge amount to do. Japan’s contribution will help us to rapidly expand our work. This is going to make a big difference.”

The Japanese Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Fumio Iwai, said:

“Japan has been in close cooperation with UNDP since the earlier stage of liberation process in the areas under ISIL control. The initiatives taken by UNDP for accelerating stabilization and enhancing resilience in newly liberated areas are indispensable for those affected by the on-going crisis in Iraq to recover their original lives. We spare no effort to support Iraqi people for their better future.”

Established in June 2015, FFS is working in newly liberated areas in Anbar, Salah al-Din, Ninewah and Diyala Governorates. More than 700 projects are completed or being implemented across 22 locations. Since the start of the crisis, over 1.6 million people have returned to their homes.

UNDP’s ICRRP provides fast-track support to vulnerable families in newly liberated cities and villages where social tensions threaten community cohesion. ICRRP is designed as a resilience and recovery programme to help families withstand the multi-dimensional shocks associated with post-liberation and large-scale returns.
