The Baghdad Provincial Council has reportedly elected Mohammed Jaber al-Atta as new governor, replacing Falah al-Jazairi, who was sacked last week following protests.
According to Turkey's Anadolu Agency, Al-Atta is a member of the "State of Law" coalition, led by former Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
