Iraq's Prime Minister, Mr. Mohamed Shiaa Al-Sudani, led a meeting on Sunday to discuss the completion of the Unified Treasury Account and monitor the electronic payment system, including electronic card payments (POS).
The meeting included the Finance Minister, Central Bank Governor, the head of the Federal Financial Control Bureau, advisors, and directors of various government banks.
The meeting focused on reviewing progress in the Unified Treasury Account, the implementation of electronic card payment systems, and addressing challenges faced by public and private sector entities, as well as electronic payment companies.
The discussion also covered incentives for citizens and businesses to encourage electronic payments, along with progress updates and necessary requirements. The Prime Minister stressed the priority of supporting the government sector and identifying shortcomings.
During the meeting, a report with recommendations was approved for presentation to the Cabinet. The Prime Minister emphasized the activation of the Payments Council in the Central Bank and the importance of presenting a final report to the Cabinet.
Regarding the completion of the Unified Treasury Account, the Prime Minister instructed all ministries to implement Cabinet Resolution 3581 of 2023 and expedite the formation of committees to analyze stagnant bank accounts within one month.
