Highlights

  • We explore Water-Energy-Food (WEF) nexus interactions and linkages between water, energy and food sectors in Iraq.
  • We argue that water is a key input into both agricultural and oil production, acting to constrain and make rival food and energy outputs.
  • We conclude that continued increase in oil production and agricultural output is unsustainable, given current production techniques-a radical rethinking and restructuring of the relationships between water, energy and food production is required.
  • We offer policy recommendation based on changes that can be made domestically, along with policies that require cooperation with neighboring countries.
