Iraq's Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhebess Al-Saadi, welcomed the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Tsui Wei, at the ministry's headquarters to discuss cooperation between the two countries.
The minister expressed the desire to enhance the partnership with China, which he described as "a friendly country to Iraq both in terms of government and people."
He emphasized the belief in China's scientific and technological progress and the intention to benefit from Chinese experiences in various transportation sectors.
Mr. Al-Saadi affirmed that the ministry welcomes all reputable Chinese companies to explore investment opportunities in railway and port projects, as well as the Development Road project.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to hold a meeting between relevant Iraqi and Chinese authorities to prepare a detailed study covering all technical aspects related to the development road project.
The ambassador expressed the Chinese government's interest in participating in the project after reviewing its details and economic feasibility. The embassy had previously sent its economic advisor to the General Company for Iraqi Railways to learn about the project details.
He disclosed the Chinese government's intention to organize a special conference on the development road and officially empower the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission to communicate with the Iraqi Ministry of Transport regarding the project.
The Chinese ambassador invited the Minister of Transport to visit Beijing to strengthen mutual cooperation in transportation areas. It's worth mentioning that various Arab, regional, and European countries have expressed readiness to participate in the Iraqi Development Road project, considering it a crucial link between Asia and Europe in terms of construction and investment.
