Italian Govt Proposes New University in Baghdad

Iraqi President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid received the Italian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Maurizio Greganti, accompanied by Italian Member of Parliament Mr. Mauro del Barba, at Baghdad Palace on Monday.

At the outset, President Rashid praised the strong relations between Iraq and Italy in various political, economic, cultural, and environmental fields, emphasizing the importance of working to further enhance and develop these ties.

President Rashid welcomed the Italian government's proposal to establish an Italian university in Baghdad specializing in architectural and civil engineering, stressing the importance of training engineers and developing their self-capabilities as well as their scientific skills.

For his part, the Italian Ambassador, Mr. Maurizio Greganti, appreciated the invitation extended by the Iraqi President to his Italian counterpart to visit Iraq. He indicated that preparations for the visit are underway and expressed Italy's support for Iraq's security and stability, as well as its aspiration to enhance bilateral relations in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
