Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani chaired a special meeting on Thursday to review the implementation of Cabinet Decision 320 (2022), which concerns converting agricultural land to residential use.
According to a statement from his office, the Prime Minister examined the procedures and instructions taken to implement the decision and addressed the causes of delays, urging solutions to bypass routine constraints.
Al Sudani directed an intensified effort to expedite procedural solutions to the housing crisis and to start providing top-notch services to residential areas based on justice, equality, and entitlement. These initial measures involve deploying service and engineering efforts to serve previously neglected areas affected by the classification of agricultural land.
He also instructed selecting specific areas in Baghdad to apply the Cabinet decision and the amendments under Decision 23107 (2023). The results will be monitored before expanding the approach to other areas in Baghdad and provinces, aiming to overcome the challenges posed by informal housing on agricultural lands and improve service delivery, social conditions, and infrastructure projects.
