Chinese, Turkish Firms Win Contracts for Nasiriyah Airport

By John Lee.

Dr. Abbas Sabah Al-Baydani, Director General of the General Company for Airports and Air Navigation, signed a supplementary consultancy contract for the Nasiriyah International Airport project with the Turkish company Kiklop Design Hertz Insaat, and a construction contract supplement with the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

This action follows directives from Transport Minister Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi and a Cabinet decision transferring responsibilities from the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority (ICAA) to the Airports and Air Navigation Company.

The Turkish company will oversee the project, while the Chinese company will handle the construction according to international standards. The aim is to expedite the airport's development to benefit Iraq and Dhi Qar province.

Legal Affairs Director Taha Khalid Ismail confirmed the coordination with all parties in preparing the contract supplements. Transport Minister Al-Saadawi inspected the Nasiriyah International Airport on July 4, 2024, and held a meeting with the Chinese contractor and airport management to review progress and address any construction issues.
