By John Lee.

Dr. Haider Mohammed Makiyya, Chairman of Iraq's National Investment Commission (NIC), held discussions with UAE Ambassador Abdullah Matar Al Mazrouei in Baghdad, focusing on advanced technological frameworks for the "Electronic Development Route" project.

This initiative includes plans for underground cables, offering a more efficient alternative to traditional undersea cables, and is being coordinated with Iraq's Ministries of Communications and Oil.

Dr. Makia also highlighted the recent Iraq-UAE Investment Protection Agreement, which aims to safeguard Emirati investments and assets in Iraq. He emphasized Iraq's commitment to providing a secure environment for regional investments by showcasing various successful Gulf investment models already operational in Iraq.

To encourage Emirati investment, Dr. Makiyya presented newly approved projects across multiple economic sectors, inviting UAE businesses to explore the benefits available under Iraq's investment policies, which aim to streamline capital flow and mitigate risks. Ambassador Al Mazrouei expressed keen interest from UAE business sectors, particularly in cement production projects, and praised Iraq's evolving investment environment, which he deemed favorable for foreign capital.

The ambassador extended an invitation to Dr. Makiyya to visit the UAE, where further opportunities for economic partnership will be explored to bolster mutual economic integration.
