The Iraq-Jordan Joint Trade Committee has concluded its meetings in Baghdad, signing an agreement outlining several mechanisms to enhance bilateral trade and address existing challenges.
The committee, holding its first meeting, was chaired by Jordan's Minister of Industry, Trade, and Supply, Yarub Qudah, and Iraq's Minister of Trade, Atheer Dawood Al-Ghurairi.
Minister Qudah stated that the committee had reached key agreements to remove obstacles hindering trade, exports, and imports, thereby strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. He reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to expanding economic ties with Iraq and maximising mutual opportunities.
Minister Al-Ghurairi emphasised that the discussions aimed at deepening bilateral relations and facilitating trade flows through the implementation of agreements, protocols, and memoranda of understanding.
During the meeting, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on standardisation and quality control. The discussions also covered trade, industry, customs cooperation, and regulatory alignment, with plans to schedule the next meeting at a later date.
The preparatory meetings were led by Dana Al-Zoubi, Secretary-General of Jordan's Ministry of Industry and Trade, and Qaisar Al-Hashemi, Iraq's Deputy Minister of Trade. Minister Qudah also held discussions with Iraqi officials and attended the Baghdad International Fair and the Iraq-Jordan Business Forum.
