New Facility to make Cancer Drugs in Karbala

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani has inaugurated the new "Hydrogen" Pharmaceutical Plant in Karbala Governorate, specializing in the production of cancer treatment medications.

The state-of-the-art facility is part of the government's strategic initiative to localize pharmaceutical production, positioning Iraq as a regional leader in the manufacturing of complex medications at affordable costs.

The plant's development includes:

  • Phase 1: Production of seven types of cancer treatment drugs
  • Phase 2: Expansion to cancer treatments in vials and ampoules

During the virtual inauguration ceremony, Al-Sudani emphasized that localizing pharmaceutical production will deliver multiple benefits to Iraq, including:

  • Saving valuable foreign currency currently spent on imported medications
  • Creating employment opportunities for Iraqi pharmaceutical specialists
  • Ensuring more consistent access to critical cancer treatments

The Prime Minister praised the collaborative efforts of officials and companies involved in bringing this vital healthcare project to fruition, noting its significance for Iraq's pharmaceutical sector development.
