Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani chaired a meeting of the Industrial Coordination Council on Sunday to discuss strategies for advancing Iraq's national industry and to follow up on decisions from previous meetings. The discussion included key measures to address obstacles and improve coordination between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
Prime Minister Al-Sudani instructed that joint meetings be held between relevant authorities to streamline procedures and resolve challenges, particularly in the context of supporting industrial projects. The meeting also endorsed the Ministry of Oil's plan to provide liquefied gas to brick factories, replacing fuel oil as part of a broader environmental protection initiative.
In addition, the meeting approved the allocation of 1,000 dunams of land across various governorates for industrial projects, with a 90-day deadline for land division and allocation. This aims to foster industrial growth and support the country's economic development.
Further decisions included registering all imported products and their trademarks to prevent counterfeiting, as well as enforcing compliance with national standards. The meeting also introduced measures to regulate industrial solar energy projects, enabling private sector producers to connect to the national power grid through a net-metering system.
The meeting also focused on enhancing industrial integrity, banning the export of paper and cardboard waste, and extending infrastructure services to key industrial zones, such as the Awerij Industrial Zone.
