Baghdad to Host Arab Architecture Festival

By John Lee.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa Al-Sudani has received the Chairman of the Tamayouz Excellence Award for Architecture, architect Ahmed Al-Malak, accompanied by Iraqi architect Manhal Al-Habbobi and Jordanian architect Osayd Al-Aytan.

The meeting discussed preparations for Baghdad's hosting of the Arab Architecture Festival in October, organised by the Tamayouz Foundation under the Prime Minister's patronage. The festival will be the first of its kind and coincides with Baghdad being named the Arab Capital of Tourism.

Al-Sudani underlined the importance of such events in fostering creativity, developing modern solutions for urban challenges, and promoting Iraq's architectural heritage. He noted that Baghdad and other Iraqi cities are witnessing major urban development, alongside sustainable economic and cultural growth.

Founded in the UK in 2012, the Tamayouz Foundation was once chaired by the late architect Zaha Hadid. It has grown into a leading global initiative supporting outstanding Arab architects. The festival in Baghdad is set to be the largest event highlighting Iraq's architectural history.
