Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Sunday presided over the signing ceremony of the implementation mechanism for the framework cooperation agreement between Iraq and Turkey in the field of water. The agreement was signed by Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani stated that the agreement represents a sustainable solution to Iraq's water crisis through a series of major joint projects aimed at managing and addressing water scarcity challenges.
He emphasised the importance of following up on the outcomes agreed upon during the visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Baghdad last year, noting that the global water crisis has significantly affected Iraq.
Al-Sudani added that the financing mechanism under the agreement will strengthen bilateral relations and contribute to expanding cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the shared interests of both friendly nations.
For his part, Minister Fidan conveyed the greetings of President Erdoğan and praised the Iraqi government's steps in enhancing bilateral ties, which have led to the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding across multiple sectors.
