Iraq, Egypt Advance Pharma and Healthcare Cooperation

By John Lee.

Iraq's Minister of Health, Dr Saleh Mahdi Al-Hasnawi, has held a series of meetings in Cairo aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation with Egypt in pharmaceuticals, regulation, and healthcare development.

During a visit to Egypt's Drug Authority (EDA), the Minister was received by EDA Chairman Dr Ali Al-Ghamrawi. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in medicine regulation, registration, quality control, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and joint training programmes. The two sides emphasised the importance of shared regulatory standards, technical workshops, and capacity-building initiatives to support drug security and improve healthcare quality in both countries.

Dr Al-Hasnawi also met Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, Dr Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, on the margins of the PHDC'25 global conference. The talks addressed cooperation on pharmaceutical industry development, professional training, and the deployment of specialised Egyptian medical teams to Iraq. The ministers also discussed partnership opportunities between health, academic, and medical institutions in both countries.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination and to advancing existing memoranda of understanding, with the aim of improving healthcare services and strengthening pharmaceutical capabilities.
